Fire Safety Design – recommendations and stages

We have started to post on our blogs a series of recommendations about the fire safety design, which we categorized in 7 stages:

  1. First Stage in Fire Design – Initial design considerations(sparks and here):
    - the relevant standards related to the fire safety;
    - systems for protecting property(P);
    - systems for protecting life(L and M);
  2. The Second stage in Fire Design – The siting of manual call points(sparks and here):
    - areas where the manual call points should be sited;
  3. The Third stage in Fire Design – Select the automatic detectors(sparks and here);
    - advice on how to avoid false alarms;
    - advice on other forms of detectors and their usage(like the fixed temperature heat detectors, the rate or rise heat detectors, the duct detectors, and the beam detectors);
  4. The Fourth stage in Fire Design – The siting of the automatic detectors(sparks);
    - the spacing of detectors in normal applications;
    - the detector spacing for pitched roofs;
    - siting  detectors near obstructions or unusual ceilings;
    - siting optical beam detectors;
    - other considerations about the automatic detectors;
  5. The Fifth stage in Fire Design – The choice and siting of the alarm devices(sparksupdate!);
    - the alarm sounders;
    - the visual alarm devices;
  6. The Sixth stage in Fire Design – The zoning of the building(sparksupdate!);
    - other points applicable to detection zones;
    - the alarm zones; the zone integrity;
  7. The Seventh stage in Fire Design – The selection of control and indication equipment(sparksupdate!).
    - siting of the control and indicating equipment;
